10th Panhellenic Congress of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (25–27 May 2018)
The 10th Panhellenic Congress of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology was held on 25–27 May 2018 at the Grand Serai Hotel in Ioannina, Greece. Chaired by Professor Maria Konstandi (University of Ioannina), the meeting gathered pharmacologists, researchers, clinicians, and young scientists to explore innovations in drug development, personalized medicine, and therapeutic strategies.
The scientific program included round-table discussions on personalized medicine, recent advances in cancer therapy (e.g., metronomics, novel peptides, indirubins), neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, new therapeutic targets, antibiotic stewardship, and molecular targets for metabolic syndrome-related conditions (e.g., PCSK9 inhibitors, HDL functionality, AMPK). International keynote speakers addressed precision medicine integration (M. Simmaco, Italy), VEGF biomarkers (S. Siest, France), glucose transporter targeting (S. Sasson, Israel), and extracellular vesicles (M.F. Brizzi, Italy). A plenary lecture by A. Gravanis highlighted brain-on-a-chip models for neuroprotection, while the congress featured a tribute to Emeritus Professor M. Marselos, oral and poster presentations, and sessions on biosimilars and regulatory frameworks.
The event promoted interdisciplinary collaboration, pharmacogenomics, translational research, and education, reinforcing the Society’s role in advancing basic and clinical pharmacology in Greece.
