Pharmacology Day of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (7 March 2015)
The Pharmacology Day (Ημερίδα) of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology took place on 7 March 2015 at the Titania Hotel in Athens, Greece.
The scientific program included short oral presentations by young investigators on CRF1 receptor activation mechanisms, novel anti-amyloidogenic compounds, metformin’s effects in apolipoprotein A-I deficiency, and autophagy modulation in oxygen-glucose deprivation models.
Key lectures featured Alexis Bailey (University of Surrey, UK) on emerging therapeutic applications of oxytocin in mental disorders, Theodoros Sklaviadis on immunization strategies against prion diseases, Katerina Chatzaki on peripheral actions of the corticotropin-releasing factor system, and Vangelis Manolopoulos on the European Certified Pharmacologist training program. Jan Mueller-Berghaus (Paul-Ehrlich-Institute, Germany, and CHMP/EMA) addressed the distinctive regulatory features of advanced therapy medicinal products.
A round-table session organized by the Greek National Organization for Medicines (EOF) provided updates on centralized drug approval procedures, advanced therapies, simplified applications, and the new pharmacovigilance legislation.
The day concluded with the society’s administrative report, selection of the 2016 congress venue, and board elections, fostering discussion on neuroendocrinology, translational neuroscience, advanced therapies, and regulatory developments.
