10th Pharmacology Day of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (12 March 2011)
The 10th Pharmacology Day (Ημερίδα Φαρμακολογίας) of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology was held on 12 March 2011 in the new amphitheater of the Central Building of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The one-day event featured oral presentations by young investigators, poster sessions, and keynote lectures by distinguished international and Greek speakers. Highlights included Michael Mulvany (University of Aarhus, Denmark) on standards for PhD education in health sciences, Klaus Meier (President of the European Society of Oncology Pharmacy) on quality management in oncology therapy, Nikos Karamanos on biotechnology and pharmacology prospects, and Nikos Maniadakis on health economics in rational drug use. An honorary lecture was delivered by Athineos Philippou (University of Innsbruck, Austria) on neurotransmission and the push-pull cannula.
A round-table discussion, chaired by M. Marselos, addressed mechanisms and therapeutic prospects of stem cell phenotype control, with contributions from N. Anagnou, D. Magkoura, and A. Stavropoulou-Gioka. The program concluded with awards, closing remarks, and the society’s general assembly and elections.
The event fostered discussion on education, translational research, regenerative medicine, oncology pharmacy, and pharmacoeconomics among Greek pharmacologists and invited experts.
