12th Panhellenic Congress of the Hellenic Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (7–9 October 2022)
The 12th Panhellenic Congress of the Hellenic Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology took place on 7–9 October 2022 at the Byzantino Hotel in Arta, Greece. Chaired by Professor Ioanna Andreadou, the event gathered pharmacologists, clinicians, researchers, and young investigators to discuss advancements in basic, translational, and clinical pharmacology.
The scientific program featured keynote lectures, including on non-coding RNAs in ischemic cardiovascular diseases (Fabio Martelli, Italy) and complete pharmacogenomics analysis (B. Busch, Germany), alongside round-table discussions on systems biology and pharmacology, the pharmacist’s role in drug policy, new therapeutic challenges in neurology (e.g., monoclonal antibodies for Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s), advances in cardiometabolic diseases (NAFLD, HDL management), dysbiotic flora management, advanced therapy medicinal products (e.g., CAR-T cells, gene therapies), cancer immunotherapy, and novel therapeutic targets (e.g., early diabetic retinopathy, proteolysis-targeting chimeras). Satellite symposia addressed residual cardiovascular risk with icosapent ethyl, while oral and poster sessions showcased research on pharmacogenetics, neurodegeneration, cardioprotection, microbiome, and oncology.
The congress included awards, tributes to distinguished figures, and emphasized innovation, personalized medicine, regulatory aspects, and interdisciplinary collaboration in Greek pharmacology.
