Pharmacology Day of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (8 April 2015)
The Pharmacology Day (Ημερίδα) of the Hellenic Society of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology took place on 8 April 2015 at the Titania Hotel in Athens, Greece.
The scientific program included keynote lectures on phenotypic screening in zebrafish embryos for novel bioactive compounds (D. Beis), the molecular basis of Alzheimer’s disease and therapeutic strategies (S. Efthimiopoulos), computational discovery of small-molecule epigenetic inhibitors (D. Myrianthopoulos), and recent therapeutic advances in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (D. Bouros).
Young investigators presented oral communications on diverse topics, including adrenergic receptor polymorphisms, levosimendan’s cardioprotective effects against doxorubicin toxicity, novel anti-obesity targets, CSE gene methylation in coronary disease, cell-free DNA as a diabetes biomarker, thyroid hormone in tissue repair, sulpiride’s effects on CYP enzymes, sex differences in depression treatment, and long-term THC impacts on cognition and neurochemistry.
The day concluded with a light lunch, the outgoing board’s report, and society elections, encouraging dialogue on innovative drug discovery models, neurodegeneration, epigenetics, and clinical pharmacology challenges.
